Bringing competitiveness back to Ohio - protecting citizens and jobs.

Ohio’s property tax system has been failing both homeowners and businesses. Rising property values have led to steep tax increases, forcing seniors and middle-class families out of their homes. With strong urging by the OTPC, Ohio’s General Assembly has enacted historic fixes to Ohio’s real property tax system. The municipal tax system imposes expensive compliance requirements not seen on any other state.

At the same time, businesses have also been burdened by one of the nation’s most complex municipal tax systems, hindering growth and investment. These changes now cap real property tax growth without a vote from residents.

Ohio’s broken tax system is making it harder for residents to stay in their homes and for businesses to succeed.

Ohio’s tax system was outdated, complex, and unfair. The Ohio Taxpayer Protection Coalition presented fair and practical solutions that will ease future burdens on homeowners, reduce unnecessary obstacles for businesses, and keep Ohio competitive. Policymakers, businesses, and residents finally united and advocated for meaningful property tax reform.

In response to this need for change, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Realtors, County Auditors’ Association of Ohio and others, are still advocating for reforms that will restore fairness, simplify compliance, and maintain Ohio’s competitive edge by reforming Ohio’s anachronistic municipal tax system while ensuring sufficient funding for cities to provide for the health and safety of its citizens.
